For individuals looking to purchase dance floor mats  to practice at home, or anywhere, you may want to practice dance. These dance floor mats are portable options to lay out in a small area for individual practice. The portable dance floor mats can easily be assembled and then disassembled again.

Some homes will already have hardwood floors installed. However, these are not sprung wood floors but are suitable for the portable dance floor mats to go over. Portable dance floors are a great option if you want to practice at home as if you’re in the studio.

In this post, we discuss two of the best dance floor mats that we have available at Dance Equipment International:

  • Portable Marley Dance Mats
  • Portable Woodfoam Dance Floor Mats

We will also discuss how to properly install, care and maintain each of these floors for years of dance.

Portable Marley Dance Floor Mats

The portable Marley dance floor mats are made of the highest quality “Marley” vinyl you can buy. The surface is durable and smooth and can be used for all forms of exercise or dance.  However, tap sounds may be slightly muffled.  Also, defective taps on tap shoes may cause scratches.

Portable Marley Dance Mats are available in three colors (black, grey, and classic oak) and in three different sizes (3’x6’, 4’x6’, 6’x6’) at Dance Equipment International. Some of the colors are even available in full lengths to fit any size room.

Here are links for more specifics on the various types:

Installation

Installation of the Portable Marley Dance Floor mats are super easy.  Just roll the mats out and they are ready to dance on.

Dance floor tape can be used on all edges of the dance floor mats to stabilize and prevent movement. Some choose to tape, and other choose not to tape the portable dance floor mats down.  How you use the mats and your preference will ultimately decide if you tape it or not.

If you are going to tape the dance floor mats we recommend using this tape.

Care and Maintenance

Care of portable dance floor mats is easy as well. Properly cleaning the portable dance mats helps maintain the longevity of the vinyl dance mat flooring.  Regular dusting with a dust mop or vacuum cleaner can help keep the dust and dirt down to a minimum. Oils from bodies and sweat cannot always be seen on the vinyl surface but are in fact present as your skin touches the portable dance floor mats during practice and performance.

Before wet cleaning the vinyl surface of the portable dance floor mats, make sure the surface has been swept, dust mopped, or vacuumed such that it is clear of dirt and dust.

For regular cleaning, use 2 oz. or a 1/4 cup of an all-purpose vinyl floor cleaner to 1 gallon of water. Dip a mop into the mixture and tightly wring the mop out. Then mop the vinyl surface of the portable dance floor mat. No rinsing is necessary.

If your portable dance floor mat requires a deeper clean or is visibly soiled, then use 8 oz or a cup of an all-purpose vinyl floor cleaner to 1 gallon of water.  Dip a mop into the mixture and tightly wring the mop out. Then mop the vinyl surface of the portable dance floor mat.  Lightly rinse with mop and clean water.

Here is a link to an all-purpose vinyl floor cleaner for all wet cleaning (mopping) of any vinyl dance flooring that we’ve found works best.

Portable Woodfoam Marley Dance Floor Mats

If you would like a portable dance floor mat option that allows you to dance on cement, linoleum, or ceramic tile, the Portable Woodfoam Marley Dance Floor Mats are your answer.  However, be careful if using this on tile. The dance floor mat will conform to the grout lines and will telegraph through. If you’re using this over tile, make sure the grout seams are as narrow as possible, and preferable without grout seams.

As mentioned above, the portable wood foam Marley dance floor mats are also a “Marley” style.  The difference between the wood foam and the regular Marley dance floor mat, is the wood foam has an extra high density foam backing that is permanently attached to the back of the vinyl.

Sizes and Colors

The Portable Woodfoam Marley Dance Floor Mats come in three sizes and one color, Golden Oak. The sizes are 3’x6’, 4’x6’, 6’x6’ or full length to fit any size room.

Installation, Care and Maintenance

Installation, care and maintenance of the Portable Woodfoam Marley Dance Floor Mat is the same as the Portable Marley Dance Floor Mats discussed above.
